Education [April 27 - May 3]

Education—April 27–May 3
For disadvantaged people around the world, education is simply a dream. Education as a ministry cause is making those dreams achievable. In Central America, these outreaches are as unique as the people they serve.

Children are learning how to read and write across the street from a city dump, and adults are learning a skill at a vocational school. In addition to learning to read and write, boys are learning auto repair and taking care of cows and pigs on a farm and girls are learning to sew. Some adults even study at a seminary to effectively spread God’s Word in their communities and throughout their country.
Prayer
  • Praise God for Christian educators who are planting seeds of God’s love in their students.
  • Pray for teachers as they balance work, family, and ministry. Pray that they will make time to spend with Jesus, allowing Him to minister to their souls.
  • Ask God to grant those serving in education wisdom in preparing their lessons. Any given classroom has a variety of learners, disabilities, and cultural backgrounds.
Act!ACT: Christian teachers are needed in multiple ministry locations. Long-term teachers are especially needed, but short-term positions may be filled on a semester basis. Click Act to learn more about these needs!

Church Ministries [April 20-26]

Church Ministries—April 20–26
Florencio. Rudy. Evangelina. They are in heaven because of church ministries among the Guarayo tribe of Bolivia. Although they have passed away, we will meet them on Resurrection Day.

Church is more than the building you go to on Sundays. It’s about building relationships, encouraging people in their walks with God, and reaching out to unsaved friends and neighbors around the world. The next time you walk into your church, remember the Bolivians who are worshiping in the open air, a congregation in Papua New Guinea that is sitting on banana leaves, and those in the persecuted church who are worshiping in secret. We all serve the same God!
Prayer
  • Pray for God to open the hearts and minds of those around the world who do not know Him. May we be faithful to share the good news of salvation with them.
  • Pray for God’s protection on those worshiping and spreading the Word in sensitive or dangerous areas.
  • Pray for good time management, extra strength, and times of rest for church leaders as they balance home and ministry obligations.
GIVE: Make a Memorial for Missions gift in memory of Florencio, Rudy, Evangelina, or someone who was influential in your salvation story.

Concert of Prayer: Children and Youth [April 13-19]

Children and Youth—April 13–19
He was just 13 when he sought acceptance and security in a gang. Nappy came from a broken, dysfunctional home where drugs and alcohol were freely used. Violence was the norm in his neighborhood in south Stockton, California.
Now in prison, Nappy has had time to reflect on the one counter-cultural force that was present in his childhood: The Center. The seed of the gospel that was planted long ago by missionaries serving at The Center came to fruition when he accepted Christ as his Savior.
Now, Nappy’s life mission is to help kids who are going through the same circumstances he lived through.

ACT: Choose a month this year to dedicate time to the cause of children and youth by volunteering with the children’s or youth ministry at your church.
Prayer
  • Pray that the work of the Holy Spirit will be evident in those who are serving in children’s and youth ministries. May they be like Jesus to those they mentor.
  • Ask God to help children’s and youth leaders to have creativity as they prepare Bible studies and lessons.
  • Praise God for those like Nappy who remembered the seeds of their youth and have come to know Christ through evangelism to children.

Concert of Prayer: Evangelism [ April 6-12 ]

[CONCERT OF PRAYER]

World Gospel Mission’s concert of prayer is here! Join us weekly as we highlight a WGM cause and ways you can pray for this ministry.
Evangelism, April 6–12
In a roughly furnished village church in Uganda, the Bible Storytelling team—missionaries, volunteers, and Ugandans—taught the group of pastors and church leaders how to memorize and retell a Bible story in 15 minutes. Initial skepticism turned to excitement as the group quickly learned their stories and then walked through exercises in “unpacking” the text, revealing spiritual treasures within the Bible stories.
For pastors in cultures where oral tradition is stronger than literate-preference learning, Bible Storytelling has made a huge impact on the way they teach biblical truths to their congregations. Equipped with Bible stories, the right questions, and unflinching curiosity of God’s Word, African pastors are able to lead their congregations into a deeper understanding of the heart of God.

Act!ACT: The Great Commission—to go and make disciples—is given to all Christians, not just to those who serve cross-culturally. Ready to stretch your own evangelism muscles?Download your free copy of the World GO! Manual. This nine-week Bible study will help you see your own part in the Great Commission.
Prayer
  • Pray that God’s Word will reach the lives of men, women, and children who need to know Him as their Savior.
  • Pray that missionaries and national believers involved in these ministries will be able to communicate the gospel effectively.
  • Pray for the Holy Spirit to move and empower believers worldwide to proclaim the gospel.
