Prayer Calendar: July 1-5, 2014

Your missions prayer point this week inspired by The Call magazine is:

PRAY for Adhanom and Helen Hidug, WGM’s new international missionaries, as they use “pumpkins and puppies” as ways to build relationships and point people to Jesus.

If you are wondering how pumpkins and puppies bring others to Jesus you will want to read Pumpkins and Puppies by Jon Steury in the July/August/September 2014 issue.

Adult and Family [June 22-30]

Adult and Family, June 22–30
Gerson and Betsy Tejeda prayed for a tangible way to show God’s love to the McAllen, Texas, community where they serve. The Lord planted a vision for a ministry to provide free gently used clothing for needy families. Soon after, they opened a clothes closet called The Sparrow’s Nest located at Taylor Community Center.

When “shoppers” ask why the shop is called The Sparrow’s Nest, Betsy and Gerson share the lesson of Matthew 6. If God cares enough about the birds to feed them, isn’t He concerned about whether or not we have enough to feed our families? The answer is yes!
Prayer
  • Those serving in the ministries of social work and counseling carry heavy responsibilities. Pray that they will take time to be renewed in their relationship with the Father as they share God’s love with others.
  • Pray that more will be obedient to the call on their lives to serve in this cause. The ministry opportunities are many, but the workers are few.
  • Thank God today for the many blessings you have in your life and how God has provided for you and your family.
Pray!PRAY: Remember the lesson of God’s love for each of us in Matthew 6. The next time you watch birds busily making nests or flying majestically above, pray for those serving in adult and family ministries. Ask God to provide for their immediate needs.

Orphan Care [June 15-21]

Orphan Care, June 15–21
Caring for orphans is a sacred calling. The Africa Gospel Church Baby Center in Kenya rescues orphaned and abandoned babies and helps them be adopted into Christian families. Dozens of children have been rescued and have found forever families. However, many others have been at the center for a long time. Because of their individual situations, they are not able to be adopted.

Praise God that in June 2013, Kenyan missionaries Pius and Evelyn Korir became the houseparents of the new Nyumbani ya Tumaini (Home of Hope) for older orphans. These children now have a family of their own and a happy home environment!
Prayer
  • Pray for wisdom, strength, and health for those who care for orphans around the world. Ministry to orphans is rewarding but also exhausting.
  • Pray for the orphans’ physical needs, as many come to centers in fragile conditions and in desperate need of care.
  • Pray for the spiritual needs of the orphans, that they will see Christ in their caregivers and that they will come to know their heavenly Father.
Give!GIVE: The AGC Baby Center uses 450 cans of baby formula each month. For only $7, you can provide the center with one large can.

Pastoral Training [June 8-14]

Pastoral Training, June 8–14
Pastoral training and leadership development don’t always get the coverage they deserve.

But in many countries, pastors work two or three jobs to support their families in addition to carrying out their responsibilities in ministry. In some countries, such as Paraguay, many pastors have received the equivalent of only a fifth-grade education because they had to drop out of school to earn a living.

In order for national pastors and Christians to spread the truth and love of Christ to friends, families, and communities, they need to be educated in the Word.
Prayer
  • Pray that God will call men and women to become pastors and lead their congregations into a better understanding of Him.
  • Pray for men and women currently in pastoral training. Many trainees have not completed grade school. Pray that they will grasp the biblical concepts and learn to communicate God’s truths.
  • Pray that God will supply teaching staff needed at training colleges and schools.
Pray!PRAY: You never have to wonder what a compass thinks, or if it will change its mind or purpose at any time. It does one thing: point north. By doing that one thing, a compass can help us find our way no matter where we are. Like a compass, a pastor points people to Christ, helping people find their way through life’s challenges. Pray that men and women who are in pastoral training will make this goal their focus throughout their ministry.
