Theater Meets Missions

An excerpt from Theater Meets Missions
By Rachel Elwood, Support Staff
July/August 2010

Think that God wants you to set aside your mad knitting skills, love of classic cars, interest in bowling, or your secret dream of making it big in Nashville? Not on your life! He gave them to you not only for your own enjoyment but also to reach people no one else—and nothing else—can. But God didn’t intend that to stop at a local level. Missions opportunities exist within World Gospel Mission to use all your gifts. To learn more about these opportunities, visit www.wgm.org/go.

It's Concert Time!

If you love missions, then it’s concert going season!

From September 20 through October 15, believers just like you from around the world will pray together once a day for a specific mission field in WGM’s concert of prayer for compassionate ministry needs around the globe.

Daily the WGM website will highlight the compassionate ministry shared in the Sept/Oct magazine. Drop by the site to leave your prayer for the field.

Summer Outreach

“You are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” 1 Corinthians 12:27

Welcome to summer! I hope you are enjoying the lazy days this time of year offers us. Often we find a little more time on our hands and it’s a beautiful opportunity to be the hands and feet of Christ in our communities and around the world.

As The Call team looked at putting the July/August issue together we wanted to share with you some stories of those serving in ways you may not think of in the traditional missions sense, like Beth Ryanwho is using hairdressing in Honduras to share Christ with her community. And for those of you trying to figure out where to begin, we have a helpful guide on how to get started by discovering your spiritual gifts, missions-style. And for those of you who think that they are past their prime for service President Harriman reminds us that Abraham wasn’t called into missions until the age when most of us would be retired.

For the world to touch Christ’s hands and feet, they must encounter Christ through us. This summer you have the opportunity to be Christ in your community, serving in ways you enjoy and haven’t thought about before. Let’s take a new look at our communities and ask God how He can best use us this summer.

Rethinking outreach with you,

Standing on the Promises!

This year World Gospel Mission celebrates 100 years of ministry. That’s a tremendous amount of history! And that’s a lot of promises!

As The Call team began working on the May/June issue we reflected on that fact that God must have given several promises along the way as He orchestrated the ministries of our WGM fields.

God never says the road is easy in fact I would say some of the promises He has given to our founding missionaries were probably not even completed in their lifetime, but those early missionaries are a small piece to God’s bigger plan. In this issue you'll get to read about a few of those stories.

No matter where you are in the midst of the promise God has given you I trust you too will stand on His promises. May you be found faithful in your obedience so God can use you for His kingdom’s sake. That’s my prayer for all of us.

Standing on the Promise,
